Weird Weather

Woke up to a big change in the weather...rainy and 36 degrees F.   Making for a fine mess with the snow that was on the ground.   To quote a cliche', That's Michigan weather!

Putting it all together...........

Going to put the stator and flywheel back on first, and anything else that I can do before putting the motor back in the chassis.  Once that motor is in there are many hard to reach places!

Rusty clutch bolt

Unfortunately when the snowmobile chassis was stored, I left the long clutch bolt sitting in the belly pan of the sled.   Now it's covered with rust.   I have it soaking in PB blaster, and have been periodically taking a scotch brite pad to it.   Some of the rust has come off, but the threads are proving difficult.   I don't want to take a wire brush to it since as I do not want to destroy any of the threads.   I will try a soft bristle brush, maybe an old toothbrush, and see how that works.

Find the parts....

Well, since it is a year later I am playing the ever fun game of find the parts....somehow over the year a few parts came up missing.  I thought I was being meticulous in bagging and taggings the parts, screws, bolts, but alas, I guess not.    I went to our local snowmobile and cycle salvage yard - Slick's in Mason Michigan, and picked up a grommet for the stator wiring harness as well as some motor mount bolts.   Hopefully that's everything!   I plan on starting the re-assemble this week so I soon shall know.....

Back to business - replacing coolant hoses on the ZR 600

I've been away for a while - the oldest son was home from Iraq on leave so I didn't do much with the Arctic Cat.  I spent  some time fine tuning the Phazer so he could ride that while he was home.  Sadly he left for his duty station in Germany, so now I have some time to work on this.   I decided I am going to replace the coolant hoses now, with the engine out, as opposed to dealing with it later.  So stay tuned for that.

Cleaned the throttle bodies

As luck would have it one of my snowmobile mags made a mention of using the Works! Toilet Bowl cleaner on bras carb parts.  I figured why not? and tried it on the throttle bodies for the ZR.  I took an old tooth brush, and squirted some toilet cleaner on to the bristles.  I then quickly ran it over the corroded area and wiped it with a dry, clean cloth.  Bam!  So shiny it almost looked new!    Just to be safe though I did squirt some STP efi cleaner in there and wiped it with another clean cloth in case there was any Works residue left.   I can highly recommend this method, but just be careful handling it around the machine.

Cleaning the throttle body

If anyone actually sees this blog, and can offer some suggestions, please do! I have the throttle body off, and am trying to figure out the best way to clean these.   I have throttle body spray, but some of the corrosion is not coming off, even when using a tooth brush.   I just do not want to pit or scratch any part of it, any more than it is.

Happy New Year!

Not going to do a darn thing today, except sit around and watch movies, or something lazy.  Have a good day!
